Phototherapy

Phototherapy is a type of physical therapy, which is based on treatment with rays of the solar spectrum. Ultraviolet, infrared and visible rays of the sunlight are used for treatment and prevention purposes. When interacting with the human body, the light is transformed into heat and chemical energy, under impact of which biological and chemico-physical processes are triggered on the cell level, which has a health-improving effect.

Phototherapy devices

To recreate the solar spectrum, specialized physical therapy light machines are used:

  • heater filaments;
  • fluorescent mercury lamps;
  • quartz-mercury lamp.

The penetration depth of the rays depends on the power of the light wave. The parameters of the transmission depend on the task the physician has to complete.

How does infrared radiation work

The heat rays are absorbed by the cells and heat all the skin layers, including the subcutaneous tissue.
