The DADE BEHRING Walkaway 40 automated microbiology system is used as a diagnostic tool for determining the identification and in vitro antimicrobic susceptibility patterns of bacteria isolated from clinical specimens. It is used in conjunction with microscan microdilution panels that contain media, antimicrobics in serial dilutions, and selected biochemicals. Antimicrobic minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and bacterial identifications are determined by color changes, fluorescence changes, or the degree of cloudiness (turbidity) in the wells of the Microscan panel. The Walkaway 40 system utilizes 96-well Micro-titer trays for ID and AST test. The system is able to test ID and AST simultaneously, and the panel is able to read not only automatically but also manually. Prompt and Renok systems are MicroScans original inoculation system, Prompt is an easy and quick inoculum system and Renok is a quick manual inoculator. The DADE BEHRING system offers two types of Walk Away systems, WA 96 and WA 40, and customers can chose the system depending on their sample volume. The system has enough capability to communicate with LIS and HIS.
